Fragile Wings : A Christmas 2007 ImageThis image is probably my favorite, and is based on a poem by St. Catherine of Siena, translated by Daniel Ladinsky.  The poem itself is in my blog.In the background stands a hermitage/barn.  The border of the image is strewn with cherry blossoms (end of a season/death of love).  The fragile wing of a luna moth stretch across the picture, reflecting the lines of the poem: "The wings we have are so fragile they can break from just one word, or a glance void of love."  However, at the same time, the wings have a density that suggests that they contain hidden strength.Praying hands are at the center of the image.  Superimposed on the hands is an image of skeleton in prayer.  The old, dead prayers still can be found in the new prayers for strength and love.  The hands intersect with the wings in such a way that the prayer visually "takes wing," and strength of heart is the desired answer."Faces can cage us."  This image is really about the strength of prayer, and to allow us to let go of those things that prevent us from spreading our wings.  Sometimes we stay too long in a situation that binds us.  We must open our wings and fly!
